FAQs
What time should I arrive for the tour?
Arriving 15 minutes before the tour start time is ideal. Please contact us if there are any problems. Please allow more extra time if you need to hire a bicycle.
Should I wear a helmet?
It isn't against the law to not wear a helmet but we strongly advise it. Great care has been taken to plan routes to avoid traffic but even professional riders occasionally fall off their bikes! Your guides will always wear helmets.
What about bad weather?
A bit of rain or drizzle is almost guaranteed in the UK! Should the weather get too extreme then we reserve the right to cancel a tour 1 hour before the start time. Any participant will receive either a full refund or the option to reschedule.
Do you provide bike hire?
Yes, you can hire a regular bike or an e-bike from Russell's Bicycle Shed at either their Sheffield Station or Neepsend shops, depending on which one is open on the day. There is an extra charge for bike hire that must be paid to Russell's Bicycle Shed on collection. Bike hire can be booked as an add-on alongside ticket purchases but this must be done at least 24 hours before the tour start time to ensure availability. The bike hire period is from when the shop opens until it closes.
Your guide will escort you from the Neepsend shop to the tour start location if requested.
Prices:
Normal bike - £10 per day
e-Bike - £20 per day
Can I bring children?
This is dependant on the tour. Please view the tour page for more information
What happens if I have a mechanical problem on route?
Depending on the severity of the mechanical issue, your tour guide may be able to assist you in repairing your bike. Your tour guide always brings a range of tools to help with minor bike issues. If you are bringing your own bike then it is your responsibility to make sure that it is safe to use and in good working condition.
What should I bring?
The most important thing to bring is clothing that you feel comfortable cycling in that is appropriate for the weather. You may also wish to bring some money in case you wish to purchase refreshments on route. Snacks, water, sunscreen, sunglasses and a camera are also recommended.
I've not ridden a bike before, can I take part?
Unfortunately this isn't a cycle school and we want to make sure all of our riders are safe. We recommend practicing or taking lessons before taking part in a tour.
What is your refund policy?
If you can no longer attend the tour that you are booked onto, you may cancel your ticket up to 24 hours before the tour is due to start. Eventbrite will provide you with a full refund minus their small administration fee. Sadly we cannot offer refunds less than 24 hours before the start time or during the tour unless it has been cancelled by Sheffield Cycle Tours.
Are you insured?
Yes, we have full public liability insurance.
Are you a first aider?
Yes, I have completed an "Emergency First Aid at Work" training course and have a valid certificate.
What languages will the tour be in?
Currently all of our tours are only in English. If you are willing to act as a translator for a group then you can go free! Please get in touch!
